Seeking: Colourless anti-reflective and ultraviolet-blocking coating at low cost
This multinational company is seeking new wet-coating chemistries that provide excellent combined Anti-reflective (AR) and Ultraviolet (UV) blocking functionality but with low production costs. The key challenge with existing combined AR/UV coatings is the non-colourless appearance that results from the two UV and AR layers; hence a third layer of coating is added on top to compensate for the colouring. This makes the process capital intensive and increases the expense significantly. Ideally a solution would be a two-layer-based AR/UV coating or a completely new system. Alternatively, a UV-coated glass that can withstand high temperatures and resist damage during the AR layer curing process would also be of interest.
The combined functionality coating can be organic or inorganic or a combination of both. The coatings need to be applied successfully to glass substrates and fulfill the following technical requirements:
- UV blocking in wavelength region 300–380nm
- High AR transmission — Mean transmission in region 425–675nm; low reflection in region 425–675nm
- The coating needs to be optically transparent. Transmission color: neutral/colorless
- Scratch-resistant; cleanable
- Coating should be resistant to high temp: 400C and above paragraph
Successful technologies will be able to be applied in a wet form to glass, have combined AR and UV functionality as per required parameters, with no tint in the end coating.
